One of the most frequently questions I am asked is about car audio projects or "can you provide me schematics for some car audio projects?". Firstly, I haven't built an audio project of any great distinction for about 25 years much less one of the more recent type of car audio projects. Sixty year olds tend not to drive around with head banging music blasting from their latest car audio project which is built into their run down Ford Panel Van.

CAR AUDIO

WHAT ABOUT CAR AUDIO?

One of the most frequently questions I am asked is about car audio projects or "can you provide me schematics for some car audio projects?".

Firstly, I haven't built an audio project of any great distinction for about 25 years much less one of the more recent type of car audio projects. Sixty year olds tend not to drive around with head banging music blasting from their latest car audio project which is built into their run down Ford Panel Van.

So...  How can I best answer the questions? I can't!

The fact is I have no recent experience in car audio projects, I don't even personally know anyone who has except perhaps the author Randy Sloane who has written:

High-Power Audio Amplifier Construction Manual
The Audiophile's Project Sourcebook
<Tab Electronics Guide to Understanding Electricity and Electronics

Now Randy is a very nice fellow and he run his own site and the thing which really stokes me up is that all the bits 'n pieces are readily available in various kit forms from Randy's company SEAL Electronics.

CAR AUDIO BOOKS I'D RECOMMEND

These books I recommend because they are so often purchased through my book shop and I consider that the best recommendation of all.

I'm also asking Mc Graw-Hill to provide me with review copies of these car audio books so I can include them in my book review section.

THE CAR STEREO COOKBOOK

Mark Rumreich - McGraw-Hill/TAB Electronics

This image is copyrighted © by Ian C. Purdie VK2TIP - Book cover - The Car Stereo Cookbook

FROM MY BOOK REVIEW
My review copy of "Car Stereo Cookbook", (How to Design, Choose, and Install Car Stereo Systems), is very well written by Mark Rumreich. It is published by Mc Graw-Hill who kindly provided me with my review copy. If you ever intend to spend serious money on a quality car stereo system then buy this book. The common pitfalls to avoid, as disclosed by "The Car Stereo Cookbook" will handsomely repay your modest investment in this book. Car Stereo Systems usually require the expenditure of some really "serious" money to get the desired results, and unless your decisions are very informed ones, it is all too easy to get burned big time financially. I honestly recommend you definitely buy a copy of "Car Stereo Cookbook" to save yourself financial pain.

In the introduction Mark says: "The Car Stereo Cookbook provides a comprehensive and well organised guide to designing, choosing, and installing car car stereo systems. It's geared toward the technically orientated do-it-yourselfer who is interested in car stereo. It assumes some familiarity with car stereo's, but you don't need to have a degree in electronics or have installed a car stereo before".
